The finalists have been unveiled for the 2017 Independent Games Festival 2017 Awards, and Orwell – the technology-based privacy invasion thriller from Osmotic Studios and Surprise Attack Games – has received recognition in two categories.
First up, Orwell is a finalist for the coveted “Excellence in Narrative” award, which has previously been received by titles including Her Story and 80 Days.
Orwell has also received an honourable mention for the main IGF 2017 award, the prestigious Seumas McNally Grand Prize.
The awards were established in 1998 in hopes of creating a Sundance Festival equivalent for the independent games industry. The 2017 awards ceremony will be held on March 1 at the Game Developers Conference at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, California.
All five episodes of Orwell are available now. You play Big Brother, investigating the lives of citizens to find those responsible for a series of terror attacks by utilising a new security program that combines cutting edge information retrieval with human-directed suspect profiling. Information from the internet, personal communications and private files are all accessible to you. But, be warned, stakes are high and lives hang in the balance.
